Abstract

Ships and their propellers are subject to complex environmental loads. The interaction between ship, propeller, water, and ice influences ship propulsion efficiency, which is associated with resistance and fuel consumption. The fluid-ice-structure interaction is the man interests for this project. Sophisticated simulations of ice-water-propeller interaction will be carried out using state-of-the-art CFD-DEM methods. The simulation results are the key data for improving energy efficiency and environmental impacts of winter navigation in Swedish waters. We apply thus computation capacities to carry out research activities on this topic.
