Abstract

The Microbial Evolutionary Genetics (MEG) Lab at Lund University, led by DDLS Fellow (i.e. SciLifeLab group leader) Johannes Cairns, investigates how antimicrobial exposure, ecological interactions and rapid evolution shape microbial populations and communities. The work combines experimental evolution, synthetic and clinically inspired polymicrobial communities, biofilm and infection-relevant models, genetic engineering and quantitative phenotyping with high-throughput sequencing. The principal computational data types are short-read bacterial whole-genome sequencing, metagenomics, RNA sequencing and 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing, together with reference genomes, growth and antimicrobial-resistance measurements, community-composition time series and environmental measurements.
