Humans have intimate relationships with plants and depend on them for a myriad of ecosystem services. This dependance has driven humans to select and inadventently change species and the ecosystems that surround them for tens of thousands of years. We are using genome-wide data to understand human legacies in plants in different ecosystems, from remote Polynesian Islands to Maya territories in Central America. We are integrating geological and archaeological information with our genomic data to understand how humans have shaped biodiversity patterns, and hope to be able to better conserve species now and in the future with our results. Our research is supported by Vetenskapsrådet and the United Kingdom Research and Innovation Council, amongst others, and our team in comprised of two postdoctoral researchers, two PhD students, and myself as PI at the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences at GU.
