Abstract

The project aims to develop and validate an automated CFD workflow for ship-hull hydrodynamic analysis using OpenFOAM. The workflow will cover geometry preparation, computational-domain generation, meshing, case setup, solver execution, monitoring, and post-processing. The main technical focus is robust automated meshing for different hull geometries, including hull refinement, free-surface refinement, boundary-layer treatment, mesh-quality checks, and automated case validation. The simulations will be used to evaluate calm-water resistance, wave pattern, pressure distribution, and flow behaviour around selected hull forms. The broader motivation is to create a repeatable CFD pipeline that can later be connected to automatic hull-geometry generation, allowing larger CFD datasets to be produced for surrogate modelling or data-driven hull-form optimisation.
