Abstract

We will investigate the growth of SO(9) representations that occur in type IIA and IIB string theories living in flat 10 dimensional space. The growth is expected to have Cardy like behavior but to see the asymptotic behavior one needs to go to high massive string levels, where the full partition functions become extremely complicated and requires large amount of computing power and storage. To find the particular representations it is necessary to divide very large polynomials by another polynomial with 256 terms and then compare the result with the Weyl characters of the possible SO(9) representations that can contribute to the particular string level. One can then compare the results to with asymptotic analytic results. Progress in this project can lead to insights in the growth of states in a maximally supersymmetric four-dimensional gauge theory.
