In this project, we aim to construct high-quality reference genomes from long-read data of 16 bird-of-paradise species, representing all major evolutionary lineages of this family. The genomes will then be used to construct a bird-of-paradise super-pangenome.
The aims are to study the evolutionary impact of structural variation in a study system subject to strong sexual selection, as well as to provide high-quality reference genomes for mapping museum data from birds-of-paradise with improved precision for various projects that we are working on.
