A CFD simulation of a pilot furnace heated by a oxy-fuel plasma torch to assess the thermal power delivered. The simulation is in context of the Horizon GIFFT project to develop electricity-boosted torches for the glass industry in order to decrease the carbon intensity of glassmaking process. The torches will employ a blend of NG and hydrogen as fuel, with the possibility of providing more energy through thermal arc (plasma), depending on the current cost of electricity/H2/NG. To achieve this flexibility a range of operations needs to be assessed.
