Abstract

Newts possess an extraordinary regenerative ability that is absent in mammals. Understanding the mechanisms underlying this capability and determining whether they can be applied to mammals are of great scientific interest. In this project, we will conduct bioinformatic analyses of bulkRNAseq and single-cell RNA-seq from the newt central nervous system (CNS). This analysis aims to: 1. Characterize how newt neural stem cells gradually become quiescent during development. 2. Elucidate how these cells are reactivated in response to neuronal injury. 3. Identify the cellular and molecular differences between newts and mammals that contribute to their distinct regenerative capacities. 4. Predict newt protein structures by AlphaFold.
