Abstract

Conventional bioinformatics approaches for small-RNA and chimeric mRNA discovery rely on mapping to a reference genome or transcriptome, which may overlook important genetic variants or genomic aberrations driving cancer progression. Reference-free methods have recently emerged as powerful tools to identify novel molecules such as RNAs specific to cancer. Here, we aim to apply newly developed methods like SURFR and SPLASH2 to identify these molecules in cancer datasets.
