Abstract

Epigenetic alterations are associated with, and likely modulate many common diseases. New approaches are needed to survey systemic epigenetic alterations associated with ageing, disease, environmental or drug exposures. Cell-free/circulating nucleosomes (cfNucs) in the blood stream (the so-called plasma epigenome) are derived from cells in our human body through normal tissue turnover and provide an accessible biomarker type that can be used as a sentinel for the organismal epigenetic state. Within this project, we will apply a recently developed multiplexed plasma epigenomics platform to survey plasma epigenomes of healthy and diseased human individuals, such as cancer patients.
