The Swedish sand lizard (Lacerta agilis) is one of three endemic lizard species. It exists in several fragmented populations spread across the south of Sweden, and is red-listed. During 2019, we collected over 100 sand lizard samples from over 10 populations for a low-coverage population genomics project. We aim to investigate diversity, differentiation and local adaptation to greater assist conservation efforts. We have also sequenced over 380 sand lizards at low coverage to study the long term impacts of admixture on genome composition. We are also investigating the microbiome diversity, host-pathogen interactions, and host-retroviral evolutionary history in the sand lizard.
