Abstract

In this project I aim to study a group of ancient hunter-gatherers living in South Africa 2000-10000 years ago. The focus will be on diploid analyses where these individuals genomic characteristics will be compared with modern individuals from the 1000 genome project as well as with a couple of modern day Khoe-San populations living in the nearby area. The hypothesis is that this ancient group of people are the ancestors of modern day Khoe-San populations, but how has different demographic events and possible changes in selection pressure shaped the Khoe-San people through time? Several of the project's analyses (using a larger set of ancient South African individuals) have already been made on NAISS projects on Uppmax, but these analyses have mainly focused of pseudo-haploid data where also low coverage individuals can be included. In order to explore the full genomes of diploid data I would like to use the resources on Dardel. I have until now used the storage project NAISS 2024/2-10 on klemming for data handling and all necessary data, such as VCF files, are already available there. However, we have decided to not ask for an extension of that large program shared project since we don't see the need for it. I am therefor now asking for a smaller storage project where I can store and work with the data from the Ancient South Africa computing project
