MEMS based speaker elements are an emerging technology in the early prototype phase. In the current project questions regarding quality of the generated audio signal has been studied using frequency domain finite element simulations. The project is partly done within the scope of a master thesis at the company MyVox and academically supervised by KTH.
To gain more insight into the actuation-to-signal conversion for various prototype designs we are now proposing time domain finite element simulations. These are considerably more computional time intensive and requires access the PDC resources. We are utilizing COMSOL software that natively runs in parallel in cluster CPU environments.
Our computational results are benchmarked towards early hardware protoptype measurements and this part of the project is always included in our design-of-experiments to validate the finite element modelling.
