Abstract

This project will investigate how planetary-scale atmospheric dynamics—such as Rossby waves, jet stream variability, and large-scale circulation regimes—govern the occurrence and characteristics of extreme weather events. By combining observational datasets with climate model outputs, the study identifies key dynamical patterns associated with extremes, evaluates their variability across time scales, and assesses the role of anthropogenic influences. The goal is to improve our understanding of the large-scale precursors to extremes, contributing to better forecasting and risk assessment in a changing climate.
