While negative attitudes and beliefs about overweight and obesity are formed already in the preschool years, nothing is known about how preschool children with higher weights experience weight stigma in preschool settings. This mixed-method study aims to explore how weight stigma is expressed among preschool children according to preschool educators, how it affects their social interactions with peers, and how preschool educators respond to these interactions. Data will be collected through semi-structured interviews with preschool educators (n≈20), and a national survey targeting a large number of preschool educators (n≈500) in Sweden. The interviews will follow an interview guide; questions will explore how children talk about body, weight, and health with each other and with preschool educators, educators’ perspectives on mealtime situations and eating, how children of different body sizes play and interact with one another, and how preschool educators respond to these interactions. All interviews will be audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim and analyzed using thematic analysis. The results from the interviews will be used to inform the development of a survey, using similar questions to those in the interview guide, with additional questions added following the thematic analysis. Relevant statistical method will be used for the analysis and the result will be triangulated with the results from the interviews.
