Abstract

Ships and marine floating structures are subject to complex environmental loads. The interaction between a ship, water, and ice influences ship performance, such as motions, resistance, and fuel consumption. The dynamic loads on ships result in resonance and vibrations in the ship hull structure, which affect the ship's safety as well as local structural strength. The fluid-ice-structure interaction is also of our interest, for it determines the integrity of structural hull details as well as propeller integrity. The analyses of sophisticated mathematical models of wave and ice, comprehensive structural details, as well as fluid-ice-structure interaction, all require high-fidelity numerical simulations. We apply these computational capacities to carry out research activities in this topic.
