Abstract

The objective of this project is to ascertain alterations in umbilical cord DNA methylation in children born large for gestational age (LGA) in comparison to children born appropriate for gestational age (AGA). The hypothesis is that altered growth in utero is due to fetal programming through DNA methylation, and that this results in heavier birth weight, altered body composition, metabolism, and risk of altered growth pattern later in childhood.
