The project aim is to train a deep-learning model with images of benthic foraminifera (unicellular eukaryotes from the meiofauna) using convolutional neural networks for automated species recognition. To do so, we will use YOLO, a family of machine vision deep learning models used for object detection. The idea is to automatically identify alien species of benthic foraminifera (presumably coming from Asia to Sweden) from native species in Sweden, to dispose of identification through light microscopy.
