This student-led project aims to perform bioinformatics analysis of metagenomic data from wastewater and human gut microbiomes to identify bacterial injection systems (BIS), specifically contractile injection systems (CIS). The project focuses on processing large-scale sequencing data to uncover novel bacterial systems with applications in health, antibiotic resistance, and personalized medicine. The analysis will rely on computational power to perform high-throughput data processing, structural analysis, and functional profiling of bacterial systems within the microbiomes.
