I am requesting a sensitive data storage space in order to run the transcription software Whisper. This is to process data collected within my PhD employment. My project is about far-right/nationalist enrionmental activism. I therefore conduct recorded interview with far-right activists, hence collecting sensitive personal data. My project has been approved by Etikprövningsmyndigheten.
The current abstract of my research project:
My project is precisely concerned with the rising trend of far-right environmentalism, in which far-right actors acknowledge the reality and urgency of climate and ecological crises, in contrast to a climate denialist position. This nonetheless still very much obstructs effective climate and ecological mitigation and adaptation based on global socio-environmental justice. No matter the shapes far-right environmentalism takes, it is always based on an ethnic/cultural/identitarian/racial exclusionary understanding of place and space mediated by the ‘natural environment’. My research is therefore concerned with the new and mutating exclusionary geographies (re)produced at the intersection of the rise of the far right and climate and ecological change.
More specifically, my project focuses on far-right environmental activism, that is to say far-right political mobilisation motivated by environmental concerns that takes place outside of electoral politics. Academic scholarship on far-right environmentalism has left the non-party sector of the contemporary far right understudied. Therefore, little is known about the actual practices that result from far-right environmental discourses and strategies, nor on the activists who take part in such organising.
Moving beyond the focus on the nation(al scale), I aim at scrutinizing the conceptualisations, articulations and affective mobilisations of ‘the local’ within far-right environmental activism, insofar as ‘localism’ has become a prominent keyword for far-right environmental activism, and that far-right environmentalism translates into locally practiced activism. Indeed, far-right environmental activism constitute place-based responses and forms of resistance to various global processes, channelled through the theme of environmental/climate protection. But, how is far-right environmental activism taking place and also using place? Who are these far-right environmental activists? What are they actually doing? How and why are they doing it?
