Abstract

The Iberian Peninsula, located at the westernmost of Eurasia, is a region with a long-standing human-horse interaction history. A handful of genome sequences from ancient horse samples in Iberia revealed the existence of a divergent horse lineage (IBE horse). In a previous project, the genomic data of ancient Iberian horse samples, found in El Portalón site, has been analysed to understand their genetic and demographic history. The results of this project show that the IBE horse is a very distinct genetic lineage arrived in Iberia before the arrival of the domestic horses. Due to the presence of some gene flow from the IBE horse to the modern domestic horse (DOM2) in Spain, now we have obtained the genomic data of modern Iberian horses and the computing hours from this project are being used to check the level of introgression in their genome from IBE horses.
