Sensory neurons of dorsal root ganglia (DRGs) sense and conduct to CNS different sensory modalities (heat, cold, itch, mechanosensation, pain) from body surface and viscera. The primary sensory system requires the integrated function of multiple cell types, although its full complexity remains unclear. Recently we presented comprehensive transcriptome analysis of several hundred single DRG neurons from mouse and classify them in an unbiased manner. In current project we sequence transcriptome of individual sensory neurons from macaques in order to determine sensory neurons populations existing in this species.
