Abstract

This project is part of the EU-funded (Horizon2020) project Biodiversity Genomics Europe. In this work package we will carry out whole genome resequencing of 240 Atlantic Mackerel individuals sampled from eight locations across Europe and 240 Blue Whiting individuals sampled from eight locations across Europe. We will sequence each fish to 10X coverage and generate about 3,000 Gbp DNA sequence per species.All sequencing will be performed at SciLifeLab Uppsala. Atlantic mackerel and Blue Whiting are two of the most important species subjected to marine fishery in Europe. The aim of our project is to explore the population structure of these species and reveal genetic markers that can be used for stock assessment in sustainable fishery and to maintain biodiversity of these species.
