My research focuses on understanding air-sea interaction features in the source areas over the large oceans, leading to the development of ARs. I also study feedback on the coastal interaction processes and the dynamics of the atmosphere, with a focus on the interaction with ARs. I am keen to understand and describe the complex relationship between land/sea features and ARs in the coastal zone leading to intensified extreme events at landfall. Further, I aimed to contribute to better AR forecast and predictions by developing and improving algorithms and deploying new techniques such as studying the energetics of ARs, using machine and deep learning (ML/DL), and artificial neural networks (ANN), etc. My current research using ML/DL involves but is not limited to identifying and tracking the ARs over the north Atlantic, forecasting the strength of extreme hydro-meteorological events from ARs over Europe, seasonal forecasting of Asian monsoon rainfall (summer and winter time) during different seasons well in advance using DL, studying cyclones, bias correcting the downwelling surface radiation data from observations and satellites over global tropical oceans etc.
