Abstract

Excessive cell death contributes to many diseases. Currently, we cannot prevent it. We also lack means to induce cell death in a targeted manner in unwanted cells such as cancer cells. Lysosomes are key organelles in cell death but their regulation and interplay with mitochondria in this process remains obscure. We have therefore conducted a genome-wide microscopy screen to find genes regulating cell death, lysosomal or mitochondrial damage. These images will now be evaluated to find new signalling pathways of cell death. We will also compare the findings to previous high-content screens and other biomedical datasets in order to test the general validity of the identified pathways.
