Abstract

This project aims to investigate the role of remote drivers of the Pan-Atlantic winter compound events. According to previous studies, the Alaskan Ridge is one of the key precursors to extreme cold temperatures observed over North America prior to extreme wind and precipitation anomalies over Europe. Here, our objective is to explore the role of remotely influencing factors such as stratospheric dynamics and Rossby waves originating in the tropics and extratropics. The results of this project could potentially enlarge the window of the predictability of surface extreme events.
