Abstract

Marginal Ice Zones (MIZ) are regions of complex mutual interactions between different physical forces. Detailed and accurate understanding of MIZ has become crucial than ever, with the expanding MIZ coverage. However, with limited accessibility for in-situ measurements, this demand can only be met using accurate numerical modelling techniques. Numerous, complex, mesoscale and coupled models are to be employed for the purpose. Extensive research practises are completed using careful and repeated model simulations and analysis. Parameterizing the coupled models for an extreme event in the MIZ is a key objective of the research. This involves fine tuning the most sensitive parameters of the models, evaluating the effects of various natural forcings or conditions. The project also aims to explore in detail, the dynamics of evolution of sea ice in MIZ. The evolution of MIZ and its extend is also studied over the course of the project. The project involves using WRF, WW3 and NEMO numerical models. This is a part of PhD work.
