Abstract

In this project we will investigate the comparative genomics of two closely related plant species in the genus Solanum. This genus includes potatoes and tomatoes and is of bith fundamental and applied interest. In this study, we will generate sequence data using diverse platiforms (nanopore, PacBio HiFi, Illumina) to assemble the genomes of two species: Solanum rostratum and Solanum fructu-tecto). These sister taxa differ strongly on flower size and mating system. The project aims to develop chromosome level assemblies for conducting comparative genomic analyses of these species and investigate the genomic effects of transitions in reproductive strategy.
