The Swedish sand lizard (Lacerta agilis) is one of three endemic lizard species. It exists in several fragmented populations spread across the south of Sweden, and is red-listed. During 2019, we collected over 100 sand lizard samples from over 10 populations for a low-coverage population genomics project. We aim to investigate diversity, differentiation and local adaptation to greater assist conservation efforts. We are also investigating the microbiome diversity, host-pathogen interactions, and host-retroviral evolutionary history in the sand lizard.
