Abstract

The new proposal aims to be an extension of the ongoing project in order to enable me to inherit the data from the previous project (NAISS 2023/22-959). Senna Mill. (Leguminosae) comprises ca. 300 species positioned within 38 series, that are distributed mostly in the American continent, while the remaining species are distributed with a few in Oceania, Africa, and Asia. Despite the ecological and economic importance of the genus, only a few studies have addressed the systematics of Senna in any detail. Our research focuses on a phylogenomic analysis that includes representatives of all 38 series and the entire geographical distribution of the genus, with the aim of proposing a new infrageneric classification within Senna and a biogeographical overview of the genus. We've used an extensive sampling of specimens housed in the herbaria as sample for sequencing a panel of 100 nuclear loci to infer the phylogeny of Senna.  By studying the morphological characters of specimens housed in the herbaria, we will be able to discover which of those characters help to diagnose the molecular clades revealed by the phylogenomic analysis.
