Abstract

Understanding the molecular basis of adaption is one of the central goals in evolutionary biology and when investigated among subpopulations of the same species it can provide detailed insight relevant for conservation biology. We will sequence genomes of individuals Irish and British Red grouse in order to uncover the genes involved in differentiation and adaptation. We want to use various bioinformatic tools to uncover regions under selection and differentiation among different populations. A first step is to assemble the raw data, map and annotate these genomes to the closely related Chicken genome. Further analyses involve various FST outlier approaches and other tools for detecting selection like BayesScan and PCAadapt.
