Abstract

Understanding the molecular basis of adaption is one of the central goals in evolutionary biology and when investigated across sister species it can provide detailed insight into the mechanisms of speciation. We have sequenced the genomes of 34 individuals from three grouse species in order to uncover the genomic architecture of speciation and the genes involved in adaptation. We want to use various bioinformatic tools to uncover regions under selection and differentiation among these taxa. A first step is to assemble the raw data, map and annotate these genomes to the closely related Chicken genome. Further analyses involve various FST outlier approaches and other tools for detecting selection like BayesScan.
