The storage project will support computational research supporting problems in ship hydrodynamics that require scale resolved simulation methods.
The research to be performed related to this project are:
- Separated (or close to) flow over foils, where applications relate to control surfaces (rudders) or wing sails. Predicting the correct stall angle is crucial to determine performance and operational limits.
- Tip vortex dynamics including cavitation, for both foil and propeller applications, where the dynamics of the vortex plays a significant role in determining signature and performance.
Both problems relate to dynamic flow behaviour that is challenging for CFD computations.
