Abstract

Melanoma is a potentially lethal cancer that is most commonly cutaneous. The worldwide incidence of melanoma has risen rapidly over the course of the last 50 years. EU countries with the highest melanoma incidence rates (men and women combined) are Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland and Germany (ECIS - European Cancer Information System (2020). The higher incidence in Nordic regions may be partly explained by the intense periods of UV radiation during the summer months that this population experience. But other factors including various dietary exposure could also contribute.
