In this project we will investigate the medieval pilgrims´ mobility and their infectious diseases using an interdisciplinary multi-proxy suit of bioarchaeological tools. We will employ an archaeogenomic approach to study human remains from pilgrim´s necropolises along the Way of St. James. Coetaneous local populations from common cemeteries will be analysed in parallel with the pilgrim´s necropolises in order to establish genomic baselines for every sampled site. In addition to this the genomic analyses of individuals from North Spain covering a time transect of seven centuries (from VI to XIII) will allow us to study the population dynamics of this region.
