This project investigates the influence of mesoscale sea surface temperature anomalies (SSTA), particularly mesoscale eddies, on the formation and intensity of polar lows (PLs). Despite their significant impacts on tropical and extratropical cyclones by altering turbulent fluxes, the connection between mesoscale SSTA and PLs has been relatively unexplored. Through sensitive experiments, our study demonstrates that the passage through a warm (cold) eddy results in the intensification (weakening) of PLs.
