Abstract

In this project whole genome sequences for historical samples of drosophilid flies are being generated since over a year ago. We have already sequenced and assembled over 80 samples and other 150 samples are to be processed. In addition, over 200 available genomes from NCBI has also been downloaded which needs to be assembled. The final aim of this project is to resolve the phylogenetic relationships within Drosophilidae family using genomic data, and to focus on the population genetics of the D. melanogaster through time to study the effect of insecticides on their genomes. In addition to genome editing and assembling softwares, a wide array of phylogenomics and population genomics softwares are going to be used. We expect to be able to present a well (homogeneously) sampled phylogeny of the Drosophilidae fly family at the end of the project and in parallel show the genomic effects of insecticide use through time in Drosophila melanogaster fruit fly, in particular.
