This project aims to analyze genomic data stored in the UPPMAX Storage 2023, 'Knoren_Genomics,' focusing on the genomic diversity of Arctic foxes. The research, funded by FORMAS and VR, led by Norén's group, will be utilized by Christopher Cockerill for his PhD project. The main goal is to alleviate computational load for Cockerill's extensive analyses on Norén's main project 'Knoren_Computations', contributing to the overarching theme of genomic reconstruction of evolutionary dynamics in Arctic fox populations.
Research Topics (10,000 core-hours/month):
• Origin and consequences of farmed Arctic foxes, exploring fitness impacts from introgression into the wild (~150 genomes).
• Late Pleistocene genomics involving the analysis of modern and ancient (>50,000 years Before Present) high-coverage Arctic fox genomes to quantify genomic erosion and understand continuity of ancient lineages.
• Arctic fox adaptation, using over 200 genomes to identify selective pressures on Arctic fox ecotypes (coastal & lemming) compared to outgroups (Red fox, Kit fox, and Swift fox). The project aims to detect changes in selective pressures over time in response to climatic changes and anthropogenic pressures."
