In this project, we are using existing big datasets to asssess how biodiversity is linked to ecosystem functioning. First, we will use existing monitoring data on bumblebees from across Sweden to assess how bumblebee community structure is changing under warming tempeatures, and increasing rain. For this purpose, we intend to run spatio-temporal multi-species occupancy models to identify the strength of climatic drivers on community structure, identify which species are most at threat, as well as assess species's ability to shift in geographical range to overcome climate change. Second, we will link predictions to a synthetic model of pollination functioning, in which we simulate extinctions of species that differ in their pollination effectiveness, to assess how the loss of (more or less effective) pollinators affects ecosystem functioning.
