In this project we attempt to map illumina reads of 24 individuals belonging to 2 allopatric populations of great reed warbler to an already existing high quality reference genome (PacBio, Bionano and 10x Chromium sequencing technologies). We aim to call SNPs, find any Fst peaks and other metrics to discern any general, genome-wide variation. Also, as the birds in these populations follow different routes to their wintering grounds, we are interested in genes involved in pathways that are associated with long distance migration. The student running the project got stuck in the analyses but will now be guided by a bioinformatician from NBIS long-term support.
