Abstract

We are aiming to investigate the roles of genes and genetic factors, immune system and gut microbiome as well as their interactions in patients suffering from neurodegenerative disease (NDD), eg Alzheimer disease (AD), frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and other similar cognitive disorders to provide novel insight into the disease mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration. This includes the collection of genetic information on mutations linked to the development of NDD, clinical and neuropathological phenotypic information data on protein levels, metabolomic and transcript levels in body liquids (cerebrospinal fluid, blood, plasma, serum, saliva), cells (fibroblasts and iPSC) and human brain. We aim to contrast these biomarkers between patients with diagnosed NDD, presymtomatic mutation carriers and controls (healthy controls and controls with other neurological diseases) and to study their potential use as biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognostic prediction of NDD.
