Abstract

Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions resulting from the combustion of fossil fuels, deforestation, and solid waste disposal are significant contributors to atmospheric pollution and global climate change. The Null-ution project, supported by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, aims to address this environmental challenge by leveraging the Clostridium species-based bacterial system. The project envisions the utilization of these bacteria to capture CO2 directly from the atmosphere, concurrently facilitating the production of valuable products and chemicals. To achieve this, we intend to engineer specific metabolic pathways within these bacteria, thereby enabling the sustainable production of bioplastics and n-butanol, offering a promising avenue for carbon emissions reduction and the development of eco-friendly materials and energy sources.
