Today, life sciences research involves the collection, processing, and publishing of massive amounts of data. However, some data are never published or, after publication, lack appropriate documentation and associated metadata that allows for reuse. To overcome these challenges, we aim to develop a computational tool that facilitates metadata collection and submission of data/metadata to public repositories (data brokering). We will first focus on a relevant use case for the SNP&SEQ platform at Uppsala University, which involves submitting raw sequence reads to the European Nucleotide Archive (ENA). As the project evolves, we plan to expand the applicability of this tool to additional use cases relevant to other service units within SciLifeLab (imaging, proteomics, etc.). With this project, we expect to solve a significant bottleneck in the research data lifecycle, and promote the adoption of Open Science and FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reproducible) principles among the Swedish research community.
