Abstract

The allocated time will be used for two projects. The first project deals with developing process simulations, virtual design and manufacturing systems for composites that allows vehicle components to be cost effectively manufactured with minimal waste. (https://www.vinnova.se/en/p/process-simulation-of-compression-moulding-integration-and-implemenation---prosicomp-ii/). KTH (Division of Light Weight Structures) participates in characterizing material models and perform/develop simulation methods for modelling the manufacturing of composite parts and predict any defects arising in the part due to the manufacturing process in advance, thus reducing the need for trial and error. This also helps in reducing wastage of material, energy and time in the design project. The second project is called " Simulation Driven Design for Manufacturing of Next Generation Lightweight Aero-engine Components". Similar to the first project, the aim of this project is to make use of /develop process simulations method for manufacturing of composite components with the final aim to reduce material, energy consumption during manufacturing. This enables the development of light weight solutions and thereby the final energy consumption of the designed components.
