Abstract

The storage project is intended as resource for the PhD thesis project regarding combustion simulation using Super-grid Linear Eddy model (SG-LEM). Even with the transition to hybrid or electric power systems the combustion engine will remain dominant for for a few more decades. During this transition period, sophisticated simulation tools are quite valuable in the design of new generation combustion devices, especially given the increasingly stricter emissions requirements. Large Eddy simulation (LES) is one method for high resolution combustion simulation requiring the use of a combustion model such as SG-LEM. SG-LEM has been under development for three years and is ready for validation and production runs. It is a computationally very expensive technique and it is desirable to have high resolution test cases (standard academic cases and possibly some industrial ones) during this testing phase to fully understand the nuances of the model. It is expected that the involved PhD student will finalize his licenciate thesis by the end of 2022 and his PhD thesis by spring 2024.
