Abstract

This is a pilot project in collaboration with the police and NFC in order to see if aDNA techniques can be used in order to solve cases where NFC’s standard methods doesn’t work. We plan to utilize aDNA techniques in order to extract DNA from a several decade old biological material found at a crime scene, build sequencing libraries and see if it matches a DNA sample from a reference sample. NGI Uppsala (SNP&SEQ) will build DNA libraries and sequence these libraries for the reference sample. The two samples will be sequenced on separate lanes of the NovaSeq 6000 SP flow cell. Since this project contain genetic data from (at least) one now living person, we consider this project sensitive and would like to perform all analysis as in a NAISS SENS project. However, we don’t have any other personal data (e.g., name, personal number, phenotype) regarding the individual the genetic data comes from. If the project is successful, the results will likely be used as evidence in court.
