This project will aim at gaining scientific knowledge underlying the dynamics of twin shaft regenerative (TSR) kilns and increase energy efficiency while reducing CO2 emissions. The project consists of three major parts: (1) developed simulation model for TSR kilns, (2) industrial tests based on model and (3) extensive knowledge exchange between kiln manufacturing and kiln operating companies. Advanced numerical tools are created, which models advanced gas phase chemistry and gas-solid interactions. Suitable operational parameters are then assessed through these models and implemented at an industrial site. Data from these trial rules is then used to validate the numerical model. Seminars and site visits for knowledge exchange are organized throughout the project. The project is deemed significant for promoting a smooth transition to successful implementation of emission-reducing technologies, as there are several bottlenecks to overcome.
