Bats have in many studies been considered as a key wildlife viral reservoir and have been shown to harbour considerable more viruses than other species. In this project we will, through viral metagenomics, investigate the viral flora of a number of Swedish bat species. In addition, we will put this into an ecological context of the investigated bats and link this data to the likelihood that they will spread viruses to other species and through this also identify measures that can be taken to prevent spill-over. More specifically we will investigate the viral metagenome of different bat species in Uppland (north of Stockholm) and in Södermanland (south of Stockholm).
