Abstract

The Safe Passage Study is a large, prospective, multidisciplinary study designed to investigate the association between prenatal alcohol exposure and maternal and neonatal outcomes. In this study we included 136 placenta samples collected from the study. The research questions to be answered are: how does maternal alcohol consumption or illicit drug use during pregnancy affect placental RNA levels? Does binge drinking affect placental mRNA levels? Does methamphetamine and marijuana use during pregnancy affect placental mRNA levels? Are the same or different signaling pathways affected by these drugs?
