There is evidence that diet may be associated with markers of inflammation. Until now, the only dietary inflammatory index to our knowledge developed for a Nordic population is the Anti-Inflammatory Dietary Index (AIDI). The AIDI was developed and validated in a population of 3502 Swedish women (aged 56-74) from the Swedish Mammography Cohort with high sensitivity CRP (hsCRP) <20 mg/L. We hypothesize that the previously developed AIDI could be a valid tool to predict low-grade systemic inflammation in a cohort of middle-aged and elderly men as well. Therefore, the aim of this project is validation and further developing the AIDI as a tool to assess anti-inflammatory potential of diet in the Cohort of Swedish Men - Clinical (COSM-Clinical) subcohort (about 4800 men who participated in a clinical health exam during 2010-2017). To the validation we plan to use hsCRP and other low-grade systemic inflammation-related biomarkers.
